The wiring that built you got you here. It was never built for where your success needs to go next.

Successful Leaders, Let's Start the Rewiring – Welcome to the Diagnosis Room

Here is the bottom line. Greater success brings greater stress and pressure, and if your wiring is still set in the early builder phase of your business and career, that pressure gives rise to a whole range of issues you are probably feeling right now.

Start your exploration by understanding your Leadership Style. This will then help you understand how each section affects you specifically and what to change.

The short answer

Why does success increase stress and pressure, and how does the Diagnosis Room help?

Success brings more responsibility, bigger decisions, greater visibility and more people relying on you, often while you’re still operating through the same internal wiring that got you here.

Success changes the terrain. You wouldn’t expect a Toyota Yaris to tow a heavy trailer, off road, up a mountain packed with a full family on board; you’d use a vehicle built for the journey. This is why we need to upgrade our internal rewiring, to be equipped for the new terrain and demands of life. The Diagnosis Room helps identify where patterns such as perfectionism, people-pleasing, control, overworking or Imposter Syndrome are being stretched by success. And then how to fix them.

Research by Green Peak Partners and Cornell University found that high self-awareness was the strongest predictor of overall executive success. And that is exactly what the Diagnosis Room is designed to increase… take the relevant assessments to start upgrading your wiring right now.

Why the wiring that built you is now working against you

Here is the bottom line. In the early ‘Builder phase‘ of life, the wiring that drives you felt like it was an asset without a downside. Long hours felt like momentum. Doing everything yourself felt like control. Saying yes to everyone felt like building relationships. High standards felt like quality. None of it had caught up with you yet, because the stakes were still small enough to absorb the cost.

Success changes the equation. Greater success brings greater responsibility. Greater responsibility brings greater pressure. Greater pressure brings greater expectations, from clients, from your team, from yourself. The wiring has not changed. What you are now required to carry has changed enormously. This is why so many high achievers find that success brings more internal difficulty, not less.

It is not a personal failing. It is the predictable result of demand outpacing a nervous system that is still running on outdated internal wiring and beliefs. These may have felt like they worked for the early-stage ‘Builder phase’ of a business, but they have since been outgrown by the transformation required for next-level success.

That gap is where anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, low mood, social avoidance, overthinking, Imposter Syndrome, perfectionism and people-pleasing all live. The Diagnosis Room exists to help you see which of these is running for you, right now, so you can do something about it. Explore the sections below.

Start here. To get the most out of the page know your leadership style

If you want more individualised support, before you explore the areas below, take the two minute Leadership Style quiz? It identifies which of four styles you lead with, the Driven Operator (Spade), the Visionary Driver (Diamond), the Analytical Strategist (Club), or the Connector (Heart), and gives you a clearer picture of your own natural wiring, strengths and blind spots.

Knowing your leadership style matters here for a specific reason. Every pattern in the Diagnosis Room, anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, imposter syndrome, burnout, and the rest, shows up differently depending on how you are wired. So this takes your learnings to the next level tailored to you!

  • A Driven Operator carries pressure as control and impatience.
  • A Visionary Driver carries it as relentless acceleration.
  • An Analytical Strategist carries it as cognitive overload and decision paralysis.
  • A Connector carries it as emotional saturation.

Every page you explore from here has a dedicated section showing exactly how that page’s pattern is likely to be running underneath your particular style, so the insight lands specifically, not generically.

Explore the four areas most likely to be running underneath your pressure

Mental Pressure Hub. This hub covers the array of negative patterns and problems most directly linked to a nervous system and outdated wiring, under Sustained Pressure, Anxiety, Extreme Pressure and Overwhelm, Stress Induced Depression, Stress, Procrastination, Sleep Issues, Social Anxiety, Burnout and Nervous System Reset. If you feel wired, tired, overwhelmed or flat more often than you would like to admit, start here.

Explore the Mental Pressure Hub

Imposter Syndrome. For the successful leader who privately fears being exposed as a fraud, despite the evidence in front of them. If your success never quite feels earned, and you overthink what others may perceive or overwork in order to prove yourself, this is where to start.

Explore Imposter Syndrome

Perfectionism. For the leader whose high standards have become a bottleneck, in decisions, in delegation, in the ability to finish and move on. If nothing is ever quite good enough, including your own work, this is where to start.

Explore Perfectionism

People Pleasing. For the leader who struggles to say no, softens the hard conversation, or quietly absorbs everyone else’s needs ahead of their own. If keeping the peace is costing you your boundaries, your revenue or your authority, this is where to start.

Explore People Pleasing

You are probably more than one of these

Very few high achievers experience just one of these patterns in isolation. Perfectionism and imposter syndrome frequently share the same root. Chronic stress and burnout often build on each other over years. People-pleasing and social anxiety both commonly stem from the same fear of judgement. If more than one of the descriptions above sounds familiar, that is the normal picture for someone who has been performing at a high level for a long time without the wiring underneath ever being addressed.

Why this page exists, straight and clearly

None of this is about labelling you or finding something wrong with you. It exists to help you understand yourself, to explore why you feel the way you do despite your success, and to work out what your next step actually is. Research across leadership and performance psychology consistently identifies self-awareness as the strongest predictor of effective decision-making, resilience and long-term achievement, ahead of intelligence, technical skill or experience. You cannot rewire a pattern you cannot see. That is the entire purpose of the Diagnosis Room, to help you see it clearly.

What the research shows about self-awareness and leadership success

Research by Eurich and colleagues found that leaders with strong self-awareness were significantly more effective decision-makers and were rated by their teams as more capable leaders, regardless of technical expertise. Research on emotional intelligence in leadership by Goleman found self-awareness to be the foundational competency underpinning every other high-performance leadership trait.

For those ready to commit to change

Once you have a clearer picture of which pattern is most active for you, the next step is to decide what you want to do about it. For leaders who are ready to commit to real change, the aim is straightforward, to help you feel and perform at your best long term, without sacrificing your health, happiness, relationships or business success.

The Performance Reset Call is a free 30-minute diagnostic conversation with Nicky. Straight talk on exactly which patterns are most active in your specific situation and what addressing them at the root, rather than managing them individually, actually looks like. You will not be figuring this out alone.

What others are saying

These clients were once where you are now: carrying more than they let on, and unsure what actually needed to change.

    Nick K Senior Executive
  • “I was feeling completely lost, overwhelmed, burnt out, totally trapped and stuck in my life and unable to move forward… now I can push through any discomfort that comes up, I trust in my ability, and it’s just really great to feel like I’ve got my life back and enjoy living it again.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where should I start if more than one of these sounds like me

Start with whichever pattern feels most familiar or most costly right now. If nothing stands out clearly, the Mental Pressure Hub is a strong starting point, since it addresses the nervous system mechanism common to most of the other patterns. Imposter syndrome, people pleasing and perfectionism are usually the root of these pressure symptoms, so those are worth exploring too if you are unsure where to begin.

  • Is this the same as a mental health diagnosis

No. The Diagnosis Room and its assessments are self-awareness tools, not clinical diagnostic instruments. If you are concerned about your mental health, speaking with your GP is an important step alongside, not instead of, this work. Nicky is also happy to help guide you on the right next step.

  • Why does success make these patterns worse instead of better

Because success increases the responsibility, pressure and expectations riding on the same wiring you built your business with in the early days. The wiring has not been upgraded to match what it is now being asked to carry, so the patterns that once helped you start amplifying the cost instead.

  • I am not in crisis. Is this still relevant for me

Yes. Most of the leaders who benefit most from the Diagnosis Room are not in crisis. They are high-functioning, still delivering, and quietly aware that something is costing them more than it should. Addressing the pattern at this stage is significantly easier than waiting for it to become unavoidable, and more importantly, it means working with Nicky to perform better and grow in alignment with the bigger life and greater success you are aiming for.

  • What happens after I explore one of the four areas

Each area gives you a free, personalised assessment and a clear picture of what is showing up for you. From there, explore any other areas that resonate with you too. The Performance Reset Call is the natural next step, a free conversation to map what is driving the pattern and what addressing it at the root involves. This is for leaders who want to grow and transform to be and feel better in every area of life that matters to them.

  • Do I need to take every assessment

No. Explore whichever areas resonate with your experience. The Diagnosis Room is built to be used in whatever order is useful to you.

  • Should I take the Leadership Style quiz first or one of the topic assessments first

Either order works, but taking the Leadership Style quiz first tends to make the topic pages land more clearly, since each one shows you specifically how that pattern shows up for your style, rather than a general description you have to translate yourself. We may work out of different styles in different circumstances, but most people have a primary one they revert to. The more honest you are with yourself when taking it, the more useful you will find it.
