The injection can shift the weight. It can’t rewire the burnout, stress and habits that put it there.

The short answer

Why is mindset and nutrition coaching vital after weight loss using injections?

Mindset and nutrition coaching is vital after weight loss injections because the medication addresses appetite in the short term but does nothing to change the unconscious drivers, lack of time, overworking, reward mentality, or old beliefs that food is safety or love, that led to the weight gain in the first place. Without addressing those drivers, the results are vulnerable to unwinding once the medication’s effect reduces or stops. Using the REWIRE Method™ alongside evidence-based nutrition guidance from Nicky Anstey, a Registered Nutritionist, it rewires the habits that put the weight on, not just the weight itself, so the results you have already achieved become permanent.

You’ve done the hard part. Here is the part that actually decides the outcome

Losing the weight was never really the hardest part, even if it felt that way. The injections have done a great deal of the physical work, suppressing appetite, reducing the pull of certain foods, making the number on the scale move in the direction you have wanted for a long time. What the injection has not done, and cannot do, is change why the weight went on in the first place.

These patterns built your success. Working through lunch, using food as a fast source of energy between meetings, treating a takeaway or a glass of wine as the one reward at the end of a brutal day, all of it made sense at the time, a way of coping with a schedule that left very little room for anything else. But success brought longer hours, more pressure, less time, and the same coping patterns that once felt manageable started amplifying into a genuine driver of weight gain. The medication is addressing the short-term result. It is not addressing the long-term cause. The longer that gap stays unaddressed, the more likely the results are to unwind once the medication’s effect fades.

Why the medication alone will not keep the weight off

GLP-1 medications work by changing appetite signalling in the short to medium term. They are genuinely effective tools, and they are not designed to run indefinitely, and they do nothing to change the underlying relationship with food that existed before the medication started.

For many high-achieving business owners, that relationship was never really about hunger. It was about time, food as the fastest available option between meetings that could not move. It was about reward, food as the one thing that felt like it belonged to you at the end of a day that belonged to everyone else. It was about energy, food and sugar used to compensate for exhaustion that genuine rest was never given the chance to resolve. And for some, it traces back further still, to old unconscious beliefs formed early in life, that food is safety, that food is love, that a treat is naughty but nice, and therefore emotionally significant in a way that has nothing to do with nutrition.

None of these drivers are addressed by appetite suppression. Which is exactly why so many people see the weight return once the medication stops. We can change that.

What this is costing you if it goes unaddressed

Beyond the risk of regaining the weight, there is a quieter cost. A body that has been managed through medication rather than genuine change stays vulnerable to the same coping patterns resurfacing under the next period of pressure, a demanding quarter, a personal crisis, a stretch of poor sleep. The underlying stress and reward-seeking behaviour simply finds its next outlet.

Research on long-term outcomes following GLP-1 treatment consistently identifies behavioural and psychological factors, not the medication itself, as the strongest predictors of whether weight loss is sustained once treatment is reduced or stopped. The physical intervention buys time. What happens during that time determines the outcome.

What the research shows about sustaining weight loss long term

Research published in Obesity Reviews found that psychological and behavioural factors, including stress-related eating and emotional regulation, were the strongest predictors of weight regain following pharmacological weight loss treatment. Research on habit formation by Wood and Neal found that long-standing behavioural patterns, particularly those linked to stress and reward, tend to reassert themselves once an external suppressor, such as appetite-reducing medication, is removed.

What this is costing your health beyond the number on the scale

Cycles of weight loss and regain, sometimes called weight cycling, carry their own physiological cost, independent of where your weight settles at any given point. Research links repeated weight cycling to increased cardiovascular strain, metabolic disruption and, for many people, a worsening relationship with food and body image each time the cycle repeats.

Locking in the results properly the first time protects you from that cycle altogether, rather than trading a difficult year for a difficult decade.

Why willpower is not the answer either

Being told to simply eat better, exercise more or use more willpower once the medication’s effect reduces rarely works for the same reason it did not work before the injections started. Willpower is a limited resource, and it is consumed fastest by exactly the conditions high achievers live in, chronic stress, long hours, decision fatigue. Asking a depleted nervous system to out-discipline an old, deeply wired coping pattern is asking it to do the one thing it has never reliably been able to do.

Through the REWIRE Method™, Nicky Anstey, working as both a Registered Nutritionist and Executive Psychotherapist, addresses the unconscious drivers directly, the time pressure, the reward-seeking, the old beliefs linking food to safety or love, so the new eating pattern does not depend on willpower to hold. It becomes the pattern your nervous system now runs automatically.

What this means for your leadership style

The habits behind weight gain often mirror how you lead more broadly.

The Driven Operator (Spade) typically uses food as fast fuel, grabbing whatever keeps the pace going, and treats eating properly as a lower priority than the next task on the list, right up until the body forces the issue.

The Visionary Driver (Diamond) often eats reactively around a schedule that is never quite planned, meals skipped in the excitement of momentum, then over-corrected later in the day when the body finally demands attention.

The Analytical Strategist (Club) frequently knows the nutrition science in detail and still struggles to apply it consistently under pressure, the gap between knowing and doing widening exactly when stress is highest.

The Connector (Heart) often uses food relationally, as comfort, as connection, as the one indulgence that feels like it is just for them after a day spent giving to everyone else.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this instead of my weight loss medication

No. This work is designed to run alongside your medication, whether you are currently taking it, tapering off, or have already stopped. The goal is to address what the medication was never designed to change, so your results are protected either way.

  • Will I still need the injections once I have done this work

That is a medical decision for you and your prescribing clinician. This work focuses on the behavioural and psychological drivers of weight regain, which is relevant regardless of how long you continue with medication.

  • I have lost weight before and regained it. Will this be different

Very likely, yes, if the previous attempts addressed diet and exercise without addressing the underlying drivers. This approach specifically targets the unconscious patterns that caused previous regain, which is the piece most weight loss approaches leave out.

  • Is this just about food, or does it address stress as well

Both, and they are connected. Chronic stress is one of the primary drivers of the eating patterns this work addresses, so the REWIRE Method™ works on the stress response as well as the relationship with food.

  • How long does this take

Nutritional shifts are often noticeable within the first few weeks. The deeper pattern work, changing the unconscious drivers so the new habits hold without willpower, runs across the eight-week REWIRE coaching programme.

  • What if emotional eating is a big part of my pattern

That is one of the most common drivers addressed through this work. Food linked to safety, love or reward is a wiring pattern, not a character flaw, and it responds well to the REWIRE Method™’s approach of changing the pattern at the root rather than managing it through willpower.
